Open educational interpreter jobs in Georgia public schools appear on this page, with the state credential rule, employers, and pay facts for interpreters.

The credential Rule 160-4-7-.14 requires

Georgia's State Board of Education sets one standard credential for anyone who interprets for deaf or hard of hearing students in a school district, whatever the job title. Under Rule 160-4-7-.14, you qualify with any of these:

  • a Georgia Quality Assurance Screening (G-QAS) rating of Level III or higher in both interpreting and transliterating
  • national certification from the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID)
  • National Association of the Deaf (NAD) certification at Level III, IV, or V
  • an EIPA rating of 3.5 or higher

The EIPA option carries an age limit: the rating cannot be more than five years old. If a district hires you under a paraprofessional title, the rule still applies.

Keeping the credential current falls to you. The district must file proof of your current credential with your personnel records, next to the teaching certificates it keeps.

The two state schools for the deaf

The Georgia Department of Education's Division of State Schools runs two schools for deaf students.

Finding district openings

TeachGeorgia, maintained by the Georgia Professional Standards Commission, is the state's official database of certified vacancies in public schools. State law requires districts to post certificated openings there. Your credential comes from G-QAS, RID, NAD, or EIPA rather than the Commission, so check each district's human resources site as well.

Pay

For May 2025, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 1,600 interpreters and translators employed in Georgia. Their mean annual wage was $61,750; half earned more than $57,880. BLS groups spoken-language interpreters and all employers into those numbers.

Certified roles beside you

Teachers of students with hearing loss and speech-language pathologists fill certified positions, so TeachGeorgia carries their openings under the subjects Hearing Impaired and Speech Language Pathology. The state schools in Cave Spring and Clarkston appear in its employer list too.

These listings are Georgia's open educational interpreter postings.
