Maryland's open TVI positions, with how the state licenses vision teachers and the $60,000 salary floor that took effect in July 2026.

Licensing

The Maryland State Department of Education (MSDE) lists Blind/Visually Impaired among its special education licensure areas. A licensed Maryland teacher can add most areas with a qualifying test score or 24 content credits. The endorsement regulation, COMAR 13A.12.02.07, sets Blind/Visually Impaired apart: you meet the full initial licensure requirements for it, the same as a new teacher would.

A district that cannot fill a special education vacancy with a licensed teacher can request a Conditional Special Education License for you. It lasts three years and does not renew. You need a bachelor's degree, and you must pursue a pathway to professional licensure while you teach. Only the employer can ask MSDE for it.

Maryland School for the Blind

The Maryland School for the Blind (MSB) has taught students since 1853 on a 95-acre campus in Baltimore, and it serves students from all 24 Maryland jurisdictions.

Its outreach program extends past the campus. Infant and Toddler services reach children from birth to age four at home, in day care, or in the hospital, year-round. School-age outreach covers the expanded core curriculum through weekend and summer short courses, which MSB staff teach alongside staff from county vision programs. MSB and MSDE also run the Maryland Instructional Resource Center, which lends braille and large print textbooks, transcribes braille, and trains local school systems.

MSB hires in instruction, orientation and mobility, residential services, and therapy roles. Direct student services jobs require you to be at least 21. Offers depend on pre-employment steps that may include fingerprinting, a background check, a physical, a TB test, and a drug screen that tests for marijuana.

Local school systems

You apply to each county or city school system on its own. MSDE's Teach Maryland site has a map of local school systems with each one's recruitment contact and top vacancy areas.

Pay

Under Education Article §6-1009, the minimum salary for all teachers became $60,000 on July 1, 2026. The same section adds at least $10,000 when a teacher earns National Board Certification.

What we collect

You can browse a limited number of jobs as a guest; a free account unlocks the full board. When you use Quick Apply or create an account, we collect what you enter: your name, contact details, preferences, and resume.

Cookies and logs

We use cookies only to keep you signed in and to meter guest browsing — never for advertising, and we don't track you across other sites. Our servers and the outside services that run the site — Cloudflare for security and our email delivery provider — see standard technical data such as your IP address.

How it's used

Your application is only delivered to the school district and the local recruiter for the job you chose. If you opt in to an account, we keep your profile so you can apply faster next time. We partner with trusted districts and recruiters, and never sell your information to spammers or data brokers.

Retention and deletion

We keep applications and profiles until you ask us to remove them. Email [email protected] and we'll delete your data.

Job listings

Listings are gathered from public school district job boards and link back to the original posting. To report an error in a listing, contact [email protected].

Changes

If this policy changes, the update appears on this page with a new effective date.
